Kanehide Smoothing Plane – 2″ (50 mm)

Kanehide Smoothing Planes were designed for the craftsman just getting into Japanese woodworking. The blacksmith has held the price down without unduly sacrificing quality. The blade is a forged lamination of high-carbon steel and wrought iron material. It is properly heat treated and tempered to HRC63-64. The blade is fully sharpened and polished and then installed in a Japanese White Oak body.
This plane works on the pull stroke. Once you experience the control you have you may never go back to a western style plane. Part of the excitement of owning a Japanese plane or chisel is the initial setup. This process will make you sufficiently familiar with the tool and make you much more confident in its use. Don’t be intimidated, this plane will require minor adjustment to work smoothly. Very clear instructions are available.
